It sounded like a traffic jam in the air!
HONK! HONK! HONK!
The sky was a-gaggle with a skein of geese!
These fair-weather visitors have taken to the skies in numbers recently, toning up for their migration south. There are no travel restrictions or closed borders for goose or gander!
While we masked humans are living in our ‘bubbles’, our non-human neighbours seem rather indifferent to our changed world.
Birds still gather (like employees around a water cooler) at the backyard feeders, the neighourhood cat still prowls the fence tops, squirrels still scurry hither and yon, and the wind still seems to blow wherever it pleases.
Which may be why getting outside is good for our physical, emotional and mental health. Seeing other creatures carrying on and seeing creation cycling through its seasons, can remind and reassure us that we belong to a miracle bigger than ourselves;
Can remind us, for at least a moment, that we live in God’s world.
And just as creation goes on, so also does God’s love carry on, cycle on, continue on crafting creation.
So pause to see the ‘lilies in the fields’…and to listen to the honks of the geese.
We are not alone. We live in God’s world. Thanks be to God.
Once a week, we can be ‘not alone’ as we visit via Zoom!
Everyone is welcome to join our weekly check-in and chat, Thursdays at 9 a.m.
