Leaning into the second week of Lent!
During Lent we are following a theme of ‘again and again…’
This week our theme is ‘again and again we are called to listen…’
God Says:
We are invited to ‘lean into Lent’ as we lean in to listen to the life of our TMUC community.
You are invited to join in online worship via Zoom every Sunday during Lent. Worship begins at 10 a.m. and will be followed by a time of conversation.
On March 7, the worship service will be followed by our Annual Meeting. The Annual Meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Even though we cannot be together in one place, let’s continue to be a community at prayer together. We hope that on Sunday at 10:00, you will think about the gifts we have in our lives, and needs of our world, and then pray the Lord’s prayer (you can pray silently, or out loud).
And, sometime, when you want to have a longer worship time, we are including some words and videos for your use.
The Prayer List is distributed separately and allows us to remember specific people with our prayers. If you want to receive the Prayer List, or add a name (with their permission), please be in touch.
Again and again we are called to listen to words of reconciliation:
We are gathered for worship and work in Treaty One territory, which is the traditional land of the Anishinaabe, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota and Dené peoples and the homeland of the Metis Nation. For thousands of years Indigenous Peoples walked this land and knew it to be the centre of their lives and their spirituality. We respect the Treaties that were made on these territories, we acknowledge the harms and mistakes of the past, and we dedicate ourselves to move forward in partnership with Indigenous communities in a spirit of reconciliation and collaboration.
Again and again we are called to listen for God in music, scripture and prayer. We are invited to worship.

You call us, O God, to be your people.
Again and again you invite us to journey with Jesus.
We come to worship today that we might be with you.
Open our ears to hear your Word.
Open our eyes to see your presence.
Open our minds to your truth.
Open our hearts to your justice.
Open our lives to your life.
We have come in Jesus’ name.

Mark 8:31-38
Then he began to teach them that the Son of Man must undergo great suffering, and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
He said all this quite openly. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.
But turning and looking at his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you are setting your mind not on divine things but on human things.”
He called the crowd with his disciples, and said to them, “if any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me, or those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel, will save it.
For what will it profit them to gain the whole world and forfeit their life?
Indeed, what can they give in return for their life?
Those who are ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of them the Son of Man will also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”

Let us pray:
God, again and again we listen…
We listen to words read and spoken
…word of scripture, words of sermons, words of prayers,
words of political leaders, words of journalists, novelists, poets and playwrights,
words of lyricists and teachers and co-workers,
words of friends…
We listen to our breath, to the breathing of all creation…
And we listen…
for Your word…
Your word made flesh,
or perhaps made colour, or cloud, or snowflake, or birdsong, or gnarly bark, or ancient stone…
We listen, with all of our senses.
We listen to what is outside and around us;
and we listen to the dreams, the hopes, the anxieties within us.
We listen to Your image, Your spirit, Your presence in creation and in ourselves.
We listen to the hurts and broken places in this world.
From our listening we offer our prayers:
We pray for an effective rollout of Covid-19 vaccines throughout the world.
We pray for just and compassionate distribution of wealth and resources.
We pray for all whose lives are bound by poverty and hunger.
We pray for those with no place to call home, no shelter from the cold.
We pray for everyone to have a place of welcome and safety.
We pray for those who live with pain, who live with cancer, with MS, with dementia, with physical challenges or diseases.
We pray for healing, we pray for everyone to be held in the love and care of compassionate family, friends and medical professionals.
We pray for peace in this world. We pray for all who live in places of war, conflict and political tension. We pray for the people of Yemen, Nigeria and Armenia.
We pray for everyone trying to work and teach and serve in many roles in the midst of this pandemic.
We pray for leaders to lead with wisdom, compassion, understanding and courage.
We pray for reconciliation and healing of relationships. We pray to be released from the prejudices, fears, divisions and attitudes of superiority that poison our humanity.
We pray for humans to truly learn to live in peace with the rest of your creation. We pray that we join as a global community to heal creation.
We pray that, during this season of Lent, You awaken within us a courageous faith to companion Jesus on this journey towards cross and tomb.
In Christ’s name we pray. AMEN
