May is the month of Maia!

In Greek mythology, Maia was a somewhat shy goddess. Her name means ‘mother’ and the Romans associated her with spring and with our ‘mother’ the earth.

The month of May was named after Maia, so it is quite appropriate that Mother’s Day occurs during the month of ‘Mother’, the month of May.

During May, people will ‘finally’ trust that winter has receded for another season and begin to plant flowers, herbs and all variety of garden plants.

Various gods were popular choices for calendar names. January is named after the Roman god Janus. Thursday owes it’s name to the Norse god Thor – Thursday is Thor’s day!

During this lingering time of COVID, keeping track of the days and even months can become challenging, so maybe we could call each day “Godday’ and each month “Goduary.”

While we don’t seriously think we should rename days and months, doing so would remind us that all time exists within God; that God is present with us at all times – every day and every month; and that even during a pandemic, God is with us. We are not alone. We live in God’s world. We live in God’s love.

And, remember, Thursday is not only ‘Thor’s Day’, but is also the day for our weekly ZOOM check-in and chats. Everyone is invited to join us for a time of visiting at 9 a.m. Thursday morning.
