Today is Ash Wednesday, the prayer service is at 1:00 pm

Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent.  Traditionally, on this day, Christians use ashes or sometimes oil, to mark their foreheads with the sign of the cross.

Today, at 1:00 p.m., you are invited to join us on ZOOM for a brief Ash Wednesday service. If you wish to mark your forehead as part of the service, please have some ashes or oil at hand – olive/avocado/corn/sunflower – whatever you have will be just fine.

Ash Wednesday is a day to confess our brokenness. It is a time of repentance, of acknowledging that as individuals and as a global community we must change and we must embrace ways of living that are more inclusive, compassionate and neighbourly.

Today, we confess our global human brokenness and acknowledge that we must learn the ways of peace.  We will light candles and pray – remembering the grief that comes with unmarked graves at Residential Schools, the losses in this pandemic, our worries about Climate Change, the problems of ongoing racism, and, of course, our prayers for peace as we grieve and mourn the invasion of Ukraine and the deaths and injuries of so many of our brothers and sisters.   #StandWithUkraine!

In this difficult time, as we pray, we do our best to carry on with our daily activities and to carry on being church in our community.

So, we share these reminders of the life and work of TMUC:

The Transcona Memorial United Church Annual Meeting will be held on Sunday, March 6 at 10:30 a.m.  Here’s the Annual Report and TMUC’s proposed Environmental Policy (https://tmuc.ca/about-us/news/). At the Annual Meeting we will also vote on adopting a one-year experimental leadership model which provides for co-chairs to share the responsibilities of Council Chair during the coming year.

On March 6, the ZOOM link will open at 10:00 for Worship and Communion at Home.  (It is the same ZOOM link for all things at TMUC).
