There are difficult days
We continue to be in the midst of a global pandemic, and as bad as things are here, we know that there are parts of our world where the struggle is even greater.
In this age of global connectivity, all people are clearly our ‘kin’.
And, we are a grieving country. The unmarked graves of 215 children in Kamloops touch us deeply.
In downtown Winnipeg on Monday the evidence of our grief and our desire to be in solidarity with one another in that grief was clearly visible. It was a spontaneous orange shirt day. “Every child matters”.
Every child is our kin.
As we think about the history of our country, and our future, I am reminded of the occasions in the Multipurpose room at TMUC when we sat in a circle and embroidered the words of the Truth and Reconciliation’s Calls to Action onto Canadian flags.
I am not sure if that project was ever completed and think that it would be a good thing if it was still in process. Reconciliation does not happen in a moment. It takes work, and it takes time.
As bad as things are, this is a good time for us to be invited to read, or re-read, the TRC’s Calls to Action. There are 94.
As bad as things are, this is a good time for us to remember that we are all Treaty people. We are all kin.
And, we pray, ‘thy kin-dom come, on earth as it is in heaven…’
Jeff is on ‘holidays’ this week – but Emmett is still around on Sunday…
The weekly ZOOM is Thursday at 9-10 a.m., and during June on Mondays from 7-8 p.m.. I hope that you will join in. There is lots to discuss. Perhaps we can plan how the Calls to Action can be lived out in our community, in our lives. https://us02web.zoom.us/j/7538449219
If you prefer to join us by being on a ‘Party-line’/’Conference Call’ style of phone call, the number to dial is: 204-272-7920
You will be asked if you want to ‘join a meeting’, (say yes), and then enter the meeting ID number: 753 844 9219
I look forward to seeing you again!
Carol, and, of course, Jeff
