Vax is the 2021 Word of the Year from the Oxford English Dictionary

In today’s Free Press, Peter Denton offered ‘Resilience’ as his choice for last year.

As you think about the past year, what would your word be for 2021?

Our 2021 words for the year came at Epiphany last year –Perseverance and Neighbour.  (Perseverance was the Cambridge Dictionary Word of the Year too).

Other ‘words for the year’ served as touchstones for people in our community –

Wrestle
Forgiveness
Project
Collect
Play
Mercy
Connect
Peace
Joy
Love
Grace
Care
Reflection
Cup
Being
Understanding
Poetry
Alongside
Beauty
Life
Watch
Overcome

These words were distributed at Epiphany last year – and were intended to inspire thought.  (There were other words on the list that did not get picked up – how might you have reflected with hope/delight/launch/light/ or something else for your word?)

Tomorrow Epiphany words for 2022 will be available – would you like one?  (You can send us a note or join the morning ZOOM.)

As we start a New Year – with possibly new words on which to reflect, we do not know what lies ahead – what challenges and disappointments, what surprises, what celebrations, what joys, what opportunities…

What we do know is that in this year we are held by God, and that God will continue to hold us through the future.

Tomorrow (January 6) is Epiphany, a day when the Christian church remembers the story of the magi following a star to discover the Christ child.  For the Ukrainian Church, it is Christmas Eve – and so a very Merry Christmas to those celebrating!

Tomorrow we also resume our weekly ZOOM check-in and chat. We invite you to join us from 9 to 10 a.m.
