“Taken … blessed …broken … given!”

These words depict Jesus’ actions as he shares bread with his friends during the ‘last supper’ (see Matthew 26:26).

The action of “giving thanks” is added when Jesus shares the cup with his friends.

‘Taken…give thanks…blessed…broken….given’

The presence of God in this world and in our lives is conveyed by these words and actions; conveyed in this story, this memory.

This breaking of bread and sharing of drink somehow contain more than bread and drink; somehow in this act we experience God’s embracing, God’s thankfulness, God’s declaration of blessing/goodness on all creation; somehow we experience God’s vulnerability in being source of love, God’s brokenness, and we experience more God-given life emerging from all of that!

So too, we experience in our lives the acts of taking, giving thanks, blessing, experience brokenness, sharing God’s love our of our places of gratitude and grief and grace.

This Sunday is Worldwide Communion Sunday. We will NOT be celebrating communion during the in-person morning worship service, but will celebrate communion via ZOOM at 11:15 a.m. Sunday.

We invite you to prepare bread and juice, or elements you feel are appropriate to us, such as a cracker and water. These are symbols and are intended to bring comfort and hope to you and to offer respect to God.

The communion service will be 10-15 minute worship time.

Here is the zoom link for the communion service:  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/7538449219

That same link can be used for the livestream of the 10 a.m. morning service.

We also invite you, today, to honour National Truth and Reconciliation Day by wearing an orange shirt, attending one of the local events, reflecting upon/learning about Canada’s Residential Schools and government of Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Actions: Here is theCommission’s report.
