Guess who’s coming to worship?

This Sunday, TMUC expects some guests for worship!

This Sunday, TMUC is the ‘host’ congregation for the churches of TBJIGGN – seven faith communities of Northeast Winnipeg (the acronym derives from the initials of the various church names).

During the summer, these seen communities are participating in a ‘Church-orama’.  Since TMUC and North Kildonan are the only TBJIGGN communities offering weekly summer Sunday worship, people have been invited to visit other congregations for worship.

TBJIGGN created a ‘passport’ that visitors can get stamped at each worship service they attend.

Church-orama reminds us that we belong to a worldwide community of disciples of Jesus. People gather in many places – in sanctuaries, churches, cathedrals, homes, auditoriums and outdoors – to worship.

We worship!  We gather to listen to rather odd stories about a voice that speaks from a burning bush, about food given in the wilderness, about committing one day in every seven to a day of rest from economic activity, about weapons being repurposed as farm implements, about blind seeing, lame walking, food multiplying and a tomb being emptied.

These are odd stories to us because we live in a world in which we tend to believe that there is a ‘rational’ explanation for everything; in which the ‘market’ determines wealth accumulation and distribution; in which power parades its armaments and weapons.

We gather to worship: –

  • to hear odd stories intended to reprogram our imaginations to seeing this world as a place of God’s presence and agency
  • to pray, to reaffirm that we are in a relationship with this presence we call God
  • to sing hymns that speak of love divine and amazing grace.

Perhaps we are all guests when we gather to worship, all guests of this odd story about God’s love and God’s creation.

So, we invite you to worship with us Sunday morning to worship as guests welcoming our guests. We invite you to again have your faith and imagination rekindled by these odd stories, prayers and hymns of God.

This Sunday’s worship service (10 a.m.) will also be livestreamed via ZOOM . Below is the link for the livestream:

We are looking for volunteers to welcome people to worship on Sunday mornings. We would like two greeters each Sunday to welcome people, give them a Sunday bulletin, put that week’s hymn numbers on the hymn boards etc.  If you can help, please contact the church office to learn which Sundays still need greeters and to volunteer.

We continue to be grateful for your generous support of the TMUC community.  If you want to make a donation online, here’s the link:

GOSPEL READING: Luke 10:38-42

Jesus Visits Martha and Mary

Now as they went on their way, he entered a certain village, where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to what he was saying. But Martha was distracted by her many tasks; so she came to him and asked, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her.”

Pastoral Prayer

The prayer that Jesus taught…
Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory.
Forever and ever.
AMEN

Hymn: VU#337 “Blessed Assurance”
