Church and Home – Jan 29

Church and Home – Jan 29

Categories:

In 2021, the Canadian Government designated January 29 as the National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Attack and Action Against Islamophobia.

The designation was made to remember and honour the victims who will killed and injured by gunshot in the Islamic Cultural Centre of Quebec City on this date in 2017.  Six people were killed and 19 injured. The day was also designated to express solidarity with the survivors of this attack.

Today is a day for the Christian Church to confess and repent of the role it has played throughout history in nurturing Islamophobia and in supporting violence against Muslims (i.e. ‘The Crusades’).

Today is a day for Christians to profess that God is God of all people, that God’s Spirit dwells in all people, and that God speaks to people in through many faith traditions and experiences.

Today is a day to acknowledge that people of differing faiths must listen to each other’s traditions and stories of experiencing God, and bless each other as we follow our own faith journeys with God, and befriend each other as we work together to honour God’s creation and create a world of peace.

This Sunday we worship in-person at 10:00 a.m.   If you cannot be present, you are invited to join in the livestream.

Plans to host the Dinner Theatre on April 20 – 23, 2023 are well underway; but an event of this magnitude requires the help of many. We have major roles associated with the production and all casting complete; we are now looking for people who would be willing to coordinate support roles. We are looking for the following coordinator roles:

Kitchen – This person coordinates the final prep of food, and plating of salad, dinner and dessert for guests with the help of many volunteers.
Set-up/Take-down – With the help of many volunteers, this person coordinates the set-up of tables and chairs prior to the performances and takes them all down afterwards.
Evening clean-up – With the help of volunteers, this person coordinates the clean-up of the church following each performance, in order that it is “good to go” for the next one.
Serving Staff – This person coordinates the many volunteer servers required to serve dinner and dessert to all the guests.
Hospitality room – This person coordinates the food/drinks and rest area for the cast members on performance nights.
Table setting – With the help of volunteers, this person coordinates the table set-up for each performance.
Greeters – With the help of volunteers, this person coordinates door control into the church for each performance, helping guests access the dining room and theatre areas.

If you have looked after one of these roles in the past, and are interested in continuing or help again, please reach out. If you are willing to try something new, please let us know! None of these roles are “new”, so you don’t have to figure out what you will be doing, we have clear instructions for each, we are just looking for someone to take them on. Please contact Kathy Antymis through tmuc@shaw.ca if interested.

Do you subscribe to Broadview magazine through TMUC? If so, please wait until May when Cathie Morgan Matula will contact you. Not a subscriber yet? Please contact Cathie to sign up!

Thanks to everyone for your ongoing support of TMUC’s ministry. Donations online can be made through CanadaHelps

We are still collecting pop cans for recycling (so far we have raised almost $200) and partnering with TruEarth for fundraising.
