This Sunday is PENTECOST!
Colourful ribbons will greet this Sunday’s worshippers in TMCU’s sanctuary.
The story of Pentecost- found in this Sunday’s reading from Acts- tells of Jesus’ disciples experiencing the Holy Spirit.
We read that a tongue of fire appeared over each disciple’s head, indicative of them being inspired to courageously, and faithfully, speak of God’s vision for the world, and of God’s presence in the world.
This Sunday, we can’t provide a tongue of fire over each worshipper’s head, but we can provide a non-flammable ‘tongue of fire’ at the end of each pew!
These tongues of fire consist of orange, red and yellow ribbons.
They are a Pentecost reminder that today’s disciples are also called and inspired to courageously, and faithfully, speak of God’s vision for the world, and of God’s presence in the world – to speak the vision, and then live the vision.

On Sunday, June 4th, Carol and Jeff will be attending the Service of Celebration that concludes the Regional Annual Meeting. TMUC’s guest worship leader that morning will be Diane McKenty. Diane is studying to be designated as a Lay Worship Leader. The T’BJGGN faith communities have been invited to join us in worship on the 4th.
Piano recital hosts are needed to open and close the sanctuary and stay through the recital to hear the wonderful music!

Pride Parade 2023: The United Church of Canada is walking in the Pride Parade on Sunday June 4th. All are invited to walk with us! The parade begins at 11:00am at the legislative grounds, so we are supposed to be in position by that time. We will be in row F, so the middle row of Memorial Park. Look for the UCC banner. If you can’t find us when you arrive, call Abbey at 204-230-7046 to help you find the group! Come wearing bright colours or whatever makes you feel comfortable! You are also welcome to bring church banners or other signs and flags.

Transcona Food Bank The next Food Bank is June 8. In celebration of this coming Sunday of Pentecost when the church will be decorated in red and yellow – how about donating ketchup or mustard to the Food Bank? These treats are especially appreciated in the summer months! Thanks for your generosity! (and the need for Egg Cartons is ongoing!)
Retirement Celebration:

We are looking forward to celebrating the upcoming retirement of Jeff and Carol and their 35 years of community ministry with a Come and Go reception onTuesday June 27 at 6:30pm. Brief remarks at 7pm and light refreshments to be served.
There will be volunteer opportunities available for those interested, sign-up sheets will soon be posted near the sanctuary door. But – we need your help to decorate! Do you have photos of Carol and Jeff from the last 35 years? We would like to create a photo display to highlight the fun we’ve had and the love that has been shared. Please bring your labelled photos to the church office, during office hours or on Sunday mornings and place them in the box marked “PHOTOS”, until June 11. You can also send pictures to transconauc@gmail.com Regretfully, unlabelled photos will be discarded.
We are collecting for a group gift, a token of remembrance for Jeff and Carol and their time at Transcona Memorial. If you would like to contribute, cheques made payable to Cathy Drennan, e-transfers to catherinedrennan@shaw.ca or cash contributions can be dropped off in the office. Planning Ahead: would you like to join a group of TMUC folk gathering for breakfast at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, June 19 at RnR (the old Perkins)? If so, please let us know by Friday June 16 at tmuc@shaw.ca and we will include you in the reservation! All are welcome.
Come for conversation! Tuesdays from 1:15-2:15 and Thursdays from 6-7pm. We welcome people to gather in conversation. Those learning English are eager to practice! Come and join us in the Multi-purpose room to chat! All are welcome! (if you could help with childcare during the Thursday evening sessions, please contact the church office).
Items Needed: The New to Canada people from Ukraine need some things – particularly bath and kitchen towels, kitchen supplies — dishes, cutlery, pots and pans, serving utensils, etc, a and jams (Jams are expensive in Canada and the families are accustomed to lots of jam on bread and pancakes—and they love homemade if someone is inclined… ). We also would like soccer balls and outdoor toys, helmets and bikes for adults and children.
We continue to collect clean pop cans! Our new total for pop can fundraising is $375.45!
