Office Hours Update: TMUC’s office will be open Tuesdays from 9 to 2 and Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 to noon!
Save the date! TMUC’s Annual Meeting will be held on Sunday March 5th, following the morning service. As part of the Annual Meeting we will be holding a Cake Auction to raise money for Earthquake relief in Syria and Türkiye through The United Church of Canada. Today, people need emergency shelter, blankets, mattresses, clean water, food, and hygiene items.
We join Mission & Service partners the Middle East Council of Churches, ACT Alliance, the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, and the Humanitarian Coalition to show tangible support for the people of Türkiye and Syria.
At the Annual Meeting, we will be presenting information regarding our Green Plan and presenting a motion to make some changes to the appearance of our building.
In July of 2022, the congregation agreed to take the next step in our Green Plan, approving the expenditure of up to $150,000 to upgrade the insulation in the roof of the east building. We have good news. Since that time, we have received additional grant money from the City of Winnipeg and have been approved for a grant from the Federal government. We will be able to do much more in support of our Green Plan, for about $50,000—a third of the amount previously approved.
Two of the additional things we plan to do are install solar panels on the roof of the east building and renew the stucco on the entire facility. This will give the building a bit of a different look, and we asking for congregational input. Renderings of the new look will be available to view during the next few weeks.
Come for conversation! Tuesdays from 1:15-2:15 and Thursdays from 6-7pm we welcome people to gather in conversation. Those learning English are eager to practice! Come and join us in the Multi-purpose room to chat! All are welcome! And – if you are able to help those new to Canada with household items, please let us know. We are looking for a dresser or shelving unit for clothes, a TV, a microwave, a small desk or table on which children can do homework, lamps, and towels. Please let us know what you have as we are keeping a list rather than trying to store everything at the church!
Do you subscribe to Broadview magazine through TMUC? If so, please wait until May when Cathie Morgan Matula will contact you. Not a subscriber yet? Please contact Cathie to sign up!
Thanks to everyone for your ongoing support of TMUC’s ministry. Donations online can be made through CanadaHelps:
We are still collecting pop cans for recycling (so far we have raised $207.55) and partnering with TruEarth for fundraising:
More Dinner Theatre News:
Clocks needed! The Dinner Theatre needs clocks of various sizes (NOT digital clocks) to use as props in the play (which is set in a clock repair shop.) If you can loan a clock please bring it to the office, and please put your name on your clock so that we can return them to their owners after the production. Thank you.
Many volunteers are needed to produce the Dinner Theatre. We have major roles associated with the production and all casting complete; we are now looking for people who would be willing to coordinate support roles. We are looking for the following coordinator roles:
Set-up/Take-down – With the help of many volunteers, this person coordinates the set-up of tables and chairs prior to the performances and takes them all down afterwards.
Evening clean-up – With the help of volunteers, this person coordinates the clean-up of the church following each performance, in order that it is “good to go” for the next one.
Serving Staff – This person coordinates the many volunteer servers required to serve dinner and dessert to all the guests.
Hospitality room – This person coordinates the food/drinks and rest area for the cast members on performance nights.
Table setting – With the help of volunteers, this person coordinates the table set-up for each performance.
Greeters – With the help of volunteers, this person coordinates door control into the church for each performance, helping guests access the dining room and theatre areas.
If you have looked after one of these roles in the past, and are interested in continuing or help again, please reach out. If you are willing to try something new, please let us know! None of these roles are “new”, so you don’t have to figure out what you will be doing, we have clear instructions for each, we are just looking for someone to take them on. Please contact Kathy Antymis through tmuc@shaw.ca. if interested.
Prairie to Pine Regional News:
The Regional Annual Meeting will be held June 1-4 at the United Church in Meadowood (Winnipeg). About 250 people from throughout the Region are expected to attend.
The theme of the meeting will be “Through the Wilderness Together.”
A meeting such as this requires the work, skills, talents, and ministry of many volunteers.
We need people who would billet delegates coming from other areas of the Region. While many people will likely choose to stay in a hotel, or with family or friends, we anticipate that some people will request to be billeted.
Please let us know the name, email and phone number of anyone willing to billet – either one person, a couple, or perhaps a family, including children. The Planning Team will match people requesting to billet with families willing to host a billet and they will be in touch.
There are numerous volunteer needs before and during the meeting, including:
• People and communities of faith to provide dainties/snacks for break times
• People to serve dainties/snacks and coffee/tea/juice during the meeting and clean up
• Drivers to transport people from their hotel/billets to and from the meeting; to workshops during the meeting; and perhaps to drive people to and from the airport
• People to help register participants as they arrive
• People to help with set-up and clean-up before, after and throughout the meeting
• People to set up and decorate tables for the Retirees Banquet (on Saturday evening, June 3) 2023 Prairie to Pine Regional Meeting Page 2 February 1, 2023
• People to setup and take down a book display, and to ‘staff’ the display and manage sales throughout the meeting
• Sometime during the week prior to the meeting, people to help prepare name tags, hospitality packets and center pieces for those attending the meeting
Anyone interested in volunteering or receiving more information may contact us by email at: cabad@united-church.ca. To make it easier for us, please put the area you’d like to volunteer in the subject line. For example, Annual meeting: book table, set up, communion ware.
