This Sunday will be the last service of the year.
correction…
of the church year!
The season of Advent begins on November 27.
Advent begins a new year on the Christian church’s calendar – a calendar that moves through the seasons of Advent, Christmas, Ordinary Time, Lent, Easter, Pentecost, Ordinary Time and Creation Time!
So, this Sunday will be the last Sunday of the ‘church year’ – a Sunday traditionally designated as ‘Christ the king’ or ‘The Reign of Christ Sunday.’
We conclude the church year by focusing on Jesus the Christ, on God experienced in and revealed in Jesus.
We conclude the year focused on Jesus, and then begin the new church year with the season of Advent, a season that will lead us on a journey to the birth of Jesus.
We will journey to that birth that affirms the mystery that God saves the world through powerlessness, through holy presence born in a baby (who like all babies, has a tendence to disarm us and awaken a gentleness in our souls).
So, get ready for the new year, the new church year…a new year lived in God’s amazing grace.
This Sunday, we worship in-person at 10:00. If you cannot be present, you are invited to join in the livestream.
