Lansdowne was elected last week by the General Council. She is a member of the Heiltsuk First Nation and has most recently served as executive director of the First United Church Community Ministry Society in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
The United Church of Canada’s website’s article on Lansdowne’s election (found here) quotes her vision for the church:
“To build new connections and rebuild old ones. To work towards social change that sees a world cared for, and human dignity honoured. To walk together every day in repentance and reconciliation. To march and fight and change unjust systems together. To pray together. To sing together. To discern together.”
TMUC joins with other faith communities in welcoming our new moderator and holding her in our prayers.
TMUC will be ‘discerning together’ during a Congregational Meeting on Tuesday, August 2 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting will be held online via ZOOM.
The meeting is being held to vote on recommendations from the Building and Property Team regarding work to be done on the church roof, as well as future plans for the building.
Copies of the Team’s report and recommendations are on the TMUC website. Here is the direct link
The ZOOM link for the congregational meeting is the same link as the one used for livestreaming of Sunday morning’s worship service. Here is the link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/7538449219
It is also possible to participate in the congregational meeting and to hear the Sunday Service by phone:

GOSPEL READING: Luke 12:13-21
The Parable of the Rich Fool
Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me.” But he said to him, “Friend, who set me to be a judge or arbitrator over you?” And he said to them, “Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.”
Then he told them a parable: “The land of a rich man produced abundantly. And he thought to himself, ‘What should I do, for I have no place to store my crops?’ Then he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.’ But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life is being demanded of you. And the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ So it is with those who store up treasures for themselves but are not rich toward God.”

PASTORAL PRAYER:
The prayer that Jesus taught…
Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory.
Forever and ever.
AMEN
