Today’s worship includes a reflection on the greatest commandment (love God and love one another), and the music The Greatest of These – which is also about love.
All you need is love….
As 2020 proves to be such a difficult year, maybe it’s time to turn back the clock and remember the music of The Beatles.
You might have a favourite YouTube version or recording (there certainly are lots of choices), and we wanted to share a couple of versions.

Even though we cannot be together in one place, let’s continue to be a community at prayer together. On Sunday at 10:00, let’s think about the gifts we have in our lives, and needs of our world, and then let’s all pray the Lord’s prayer (you can pray silently, or out loud).
And, sometime, when you want to have a longer worship time, we are including some words and videos for your use.
Once each week, the Prayer List will arrive in the ‘Inbox’ of those who want to read the names of those we know need and want our prayers. If you want to add a name to the weekly Prayer List, please do – ask for a person’s permission if you are adding their last name – and let us know by sending a note to tmuc@shaw.ca And, if you want to receive the list, please be in touch with that request as well.
We are gathered for worship and work in Treaty One territory, which is the traditional land of the Anishinaabe, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota and Dené peoples and the homeland of the Metis Nation. For thousands of years Indigenous Peoples walked this land and knew it to be the centre of their lives and their spirituality. We respect the Treaties that were made on these territories, we acknowledge the harms and mistakes of the past, and we dedicate ourselves to move forward in partnership with Indigenous communities in a spirit of reconciliation and collaboration.

We come to worship with the first verse of ‘Come Touch Our Hearts’
We gather together although we are apart.
We gather in community although we are alone.
We gather asking for God’s blessing on our lives, and on our world.
We gather knowing God is with us.
Our opening hymn is “God of the Sparrow”

Matthew 22:34-40
When the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together, and one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him.
‘Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?’
He said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” This is the greatest and first commandment.
And a second is like it: “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.”
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.’

Let us pray:
God,
…encircle us with your love
…encompass us with your peace
…encourage us with your hope
…and empower us with your healing.
We give to you, God, our thanks.
We are thankful for friendships that honour us, respect us and affirm us.
We are thankful for all who contribute to the well-being of communities and of individuals.
We are thankful that earth is home to such diversity of life.
We are thankful for all who remind us of the Sacred within and around us.
We are thankful for Jesus – healer, storyteller, eternal friend. We are thankful for Jesus embodying the Christ-Way; the Way of life lived as blessing, the way of life given to others, the way of God’s resurrecting new creation.
We are thankful, God, that we humans are capable of giving thanks, and also capable of discerning the sufferings and brokenness present in this world.
We pray for those who know the paralyzing power of fear, anxiety, depression, addiction; of dis-ease of emotions, spirit and thought. We pray for the peace and companionship of Your indwelling presence.
We pray for all who are living with cancer, MS, COVID-19, Parkinson’s – living with physical challenges and disease. May they know Your love with them.
We pray for all who are victimized by violence, by racism, homophobia, and systems of discrimination and domination. We pray for justice and righteousness to flow like a mighty river.
We pray for all of creation with whom we share this planet – all species of animals, birds, fish, marine life, insects, vegetation; we pray for rivers, lakes and oceans, for the soil and minerals and the air. We pray for the healing of this world, for humans to live as companions and good neighbours with all this world. We pray that we honour the sacredness inherent in every expression of creation.
We pray, God, that we may live as companions of the Christ of resurrection life, healing blessing, courageous peace-making, and God-centred hope. Continue to awaken us to Your sacred image within all of us.
In Christ’s name we pray. AMEN
