Greetings. The peace of Christ be with you.

Snow falls quietly and seemingly continuously as we prepare this worship service. Looking out our front window is like looking into a large snow globe, seeing neighbours’ houses showered with a cascade of tiny white particles.

We live in a world of many seasons – seasons that come and go and then return at sometimes surprising times.

The entire global population is living through the season of COV-19.  This is the third Sunday we have not been able to gather for worship in our sanctuary.  We are thankful for all who are ministering to each through phone calls, emails, and grocery shopping for others. We are thankful for those who continue the work of TMUC in many ways – carrying on the work of the Council, and other teams and committees, and those who continue to financially support TMUC via PAR, Canada Helps, or mailing cheques to the church.

We remind you that TMUC’s online Plant Sale fundraiser is continuing, as we look forward to summer and the opportunity to be outside caring for gardens and flower beds.  It is an online sale at  www.glenleagreenhouses.com   Glenlea provides flowers, herbs, vegetables and more through the ‘fundraising’ page.  Once you have selected items to your cart, you will be asked to provide the name of your ‘group’ and you can select Transcona Memorial United Church with a delivery date to the church of Friday, May 22.  We have a plan to sort plants and get them to your vehicle or home.  You can place your orders online until May 1.

This Sunday is the sixth Sunday of Lent – Palm Sunday!  We are entering Holy Week, aware that all weeks, days, minutes, times and seasons are holy, for all are experienced within God’s love.

On Sunday at 10:00, let’s think about the gifts we have in our lives, and needs of our world, and then let’s all pray the Lord’s prayer. (you can pray silently, or out loud)

And, sometime, when you want to have a longer worship time, we are including some words and videos for your use.

Hosanna to the one who comes in the name of God!

CALL TO PRAYER

We gather together although we are apart.
We gather in community although we are separated.
We gather asking for God’s blessing on our lives, and on our world.
We gather knowing God is with us.

Window art seems to be a thing these days.  A few churches in Winnipeg are inviting people to put white hearts in their windows to thank our Health Care providers and essential service workers in these pandemic days.  We had hands and hearts in our windows last week, and this week, there is a pattern from Illustrated Ministry that invites us to colour a palm leaf.   Would you like to join in?  Here is the link:  https://illstrtdm.in/PalmSunday2020

Or maybe you would like to play a bit of a game, by creating a path of paper palm leaves cut out and scattered through your living space in celebration of the parade through Jerusalem where palm leaves kept Jesus and the donkey on the path.

Whatever you do – or imagine doing – may we remember Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem with the crowds singing Hosanna!

SCRIPTURE

Matthew 21:1-17
When they had come near Jerusalem and had reached Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go into the village ahead of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, just say this, ‘The Lord needs them.’ And he will send them immediately.”

This took place to fulfill what had been spoken through the prophet, saying,
“Tell the daughter of Zion,
Look, your king is coming to you,
humble, and mounted on a donkey,
and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”

The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them; they brought the donkey and the colt, and put their cloaks on them, and he sat on them. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and that followed were shouting,

“Hosanna to the Son of David!
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!
Hosanna in the highest heaven!”

When he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was in turmoil, asking, “Who is this?” The crowds were saying, “This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee.”
